College of William and Mary - BA, Anthropology , Radford University - MS, Education
My teaching style is focused on building skills and teaching children how to learn. I want to help my students become competent learners with the tools to approach academic challenges with confidence. I especially enjoy guiding students in learning effective reading and writing in the areas of United States history and government. I am available to tutor students in many subjects including elementary math, algebra, geometry, world history, GRE preparation, anthropology, and test preparation.I completed my undergraduate work at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where I studied anthropology. I went on to earn my Master of Science in Secondary Education at Radford University. My tutoring specialties are test preparation and social studies, particularly critical reading and essay writing. I have taught students in several different settings: in a rural after school program, in the classroom in an urban public school district, and helping students prepare for various standardized tests. I also have worked in field archaeology. I have recently begun exploring web development and computer programming and am enjoying trying my hand at using them to solve challenging problems. In my free time I also like hiking, reading about political philosophy and U.S. History, and spending time with my dog.
