Experience
My background in tutoring started as a volunteer assisting those who needed to complete their GED. The school I worked for at that time had a broad social student body. Through that experience, I gained an expertise that I could use to provide training for aspiring writers looking to become more proficient. My experience, including a B.A. in Journalism from Pennsylvania State University and careers in both writing and editing, gives me a broad skill set that translates well into teaching within the diverse community in which I live. Due to my writing and editing work in print media, I am most proficient in subjects like reading, writing, and grammar. However, I am also qualified in teaching basic math, and I particularly focus on incorporating organizational and planning strategies to improve success rates. The response I have had from my students has been very rewarding, especially when the goals were well developed, clear, understood, and achieved. Their sense of accomplishment encourages me to continue my own work. I find it easy to relate to a wide variety of students, in part due to my wide array of interests. I enjoy outdoor sports like camping, hiking, fly-fishing, and general travel. I currently reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
