University of Delaware - BA, French Education , University of Delaware - MA, French Literature & FL Pedagogy
A graduate of the University of Delaware, I hold a bachelor's degree in French Education and a master's degree in French Literature and Foreign Language Pedagogy. Part of my educational career was spent in France. I also lived there for a second time when I worked as an English teacher. Since pursuing teaching, I have taught high school French courses, including levels 1 through 4 and AP French. I have taught students of all ages, with all levels of French proficiency, in classroom settings as well as one-on-one tutoring sessions. I am particularly experienced in helping students prepare for the AP French Language and Culture Exam and the ACTFL's Oral Proficiency interview. In my view, the most certain path to achieving fluency in a new language is to use it and speak it as much as possible. My lessons are structured in a way that focuses on surrounding my students with a high level of exposure to French. Using animated gestures and expressive intonations, I ensure my students are able to understand me without having to fall back on English. This immersion technique encourages students to develop comprehension and composition skills in French. In addition to tutoring, I will soon begin work in my doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
