Experience
My lifelong interest in the natural world led me to a career in natural sciences. I attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville and Appalachian State University. Since graduating, I have taught college-level courses for more than four years including Biology and Human Anatomy & Physiology. I have also written publications stemming from an extensive study of population dynamics in an invaded plant community, and taught a high-school-level research course on climate change. I've presented to many youth groups on aspects of nature such as plant life and insects. In graduate school, I elected to take a course in Science Instruction in order to hone my teaching skills and methods. I strongly believe that effective learning requires solid communication, and that adaptability is key to providing a positive educational experience. Every student understands material differently, and perhaps differently than I understand it myself. Thus, I work to help students make connections and develop understanding in the way that works best for them, rather than applying one teaching method with every student. I'm available for tutoring in a variety of Math and Science courses, including Algebra, Statistics, Anatomy, Biology, Life Sciences, and Ecology. When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and sports.
